5th May (Thrusday) -Guru Amar Das Jayanti
Guru Amar Das was the third Sikh Guru in the series of ten Sikh Gurus. Amar Das was given the title of Sikh Guru on 26th March, 1552.
Guru Amar Das was popularly known as a crusader who advocated in favour of giving equal rights to women in all fields.
He was among those who abolished the practice of Sati among Sikh women.
The Sikh guru was born in the city of Amritsar on 5th May, 1479.

2nd May(Mon) – 3rd May(Tue) – Eid-Ul-Fitr
Eid-ul-Fitr, popularly known as the “Festival of Breaking of the Fast”, occurs as soon as the new moon is sighted at the end of the month of fasting, namely Ramadan also known as Ramzan.
Fitr is derived from the word ‘fatar’ meaning breaking. Fitr has another meaning derived from another word fitrah meaning ‘alms’.
Special foods and delicacies are prepared for the day and are distributed among neighbors and friends. The devotees gather in the mosques to pray, friends and relatives meet and exchange greetings.

May 01 (Sunday) : World Laughter Day
The day was introduced by Dr Madan Kataria, the founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga Movement. The World Laughter Day was first celebrated on 11 January, 1998 in Mumbai, India.
Laughter yoga showed an exponential growth and became popular world wide. It resulted into 6000 Laughter Clubs worldwide on all the 5 continents. The popularity of laughter therapy introduced World Laughter Day.
The first day of the month of May is also a day of political protests. May Day is otherwise observed as a saint s feast day or a day for organized labor. In many countries, it is a public holiday.
The North-eastern state of Nagaland is a vibrant hilly local that is sheltered by Myanmar in the East; Assam in the West; Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in the North with Manipur in the south. The state is a home for many tribal communities. Nagaland is rich in traditions and cultural heritage.
One of the tribal communities, “Ao” tribe celebrates Moatsu Festival in the first week of May, every year.
The ritual called Sangpangtu in which camp fire is lit and the well-dressed folks sit around it are served wine and meat forms an intricate part of the festival. A virtuous man who claims to have directed by the Almighty forecast about good and bad days of natives and village.

Upcoming festival – 3rd May(Tuesdays) : Akshya Tritiya
Akshya Tritiya Puja at home:
1. The one who observes fast on this day must get ready wearing yellow clothes early in the morning.
2. Now, at home, bathe the Vishnu?s idol in Gangajal and offer Tulsi, yellow flower garland or just yellow flowers.
3. After that, light incense and Ghee wick lamp, and settle on a yellow seat.
4. Further, recite texts related to Vishnu like Vishnu Sahasranama, Vishnu Chalisa.
5. At the end, sing the Aarti of Vishnu Ji.
6. Along with this, if the worshipper can make donations or offer food to the needy people, it will give great results.
