10th May(Mon) – 11th May(Tue) – Thrissur Pooram
Pooram is the most colourful of all the temple festivals of Kerala. It is celebrated in Thrissur at Vadakkumnathan temple in the month of Medam (April) where the regaining deity is Lord Shiva. Situated on a hillock right in the centre of the city, the spaciously laid out kshetram or temple attracts thousands of devotees from all over the land during the Pooram festival.
The best elephants of the state from the various temples in Kerala are sent to Thrissur to participate in the Pooram festival.At 3 0 Clock in the night spectacular display of fireworks begins. It lasts till 6 0 clock in the morning. By afternoon the festival ends.

9th May(Mon) – Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti
Birthday of the noble laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore is celebrated on 25th day of Baisakh. In Kolkata, it is popularly called Poncheeshe Boishakh and is celebrated ceremoniously and jauntiness all across West Bengal.
Cultural shows and poetry recitations are organized throughout the city in the memory of the great poet- Rabindranath. All cultural activities during the this day are held at Jorasanko Thakurbari. Music, skits, dramas, traditional songs and dances are performed in institutes and theaters that are followed by the distribution of awards.

8th May(Sun) – Ganga Saptami
Ganga Saptami is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly in Northern parts of India. It is also known as Ganga Pujan or Ganga Jayanti. It is believed that on this day the day the holy river Ganga descended onto the earth. This day falls on the seventh day of the Shukla Paksha in Vaisakha month.
People worship Goddess Ganga and offer several pujas and rituals on this day. Ganga Aarti is held at several ghats of the Ganges. Ganga Shobha Yatra is organized at various ghats and many people take part in it. Devotees perform deepadan on this auspicious occasion.
Surdas Jayanti commemorates the birthday of saint Surdas who is believed to be blind.
An Indian postal department released a postage stamp on the great poet which indicates that Surdas was born in 1479 A D and his soul departed in 1586.
The poet attributes his contributions to Vatsalya Ras. He was a devoted saint who followed Krishna and used to sing songs that are spiced up the childhood adventures of Lord Krishna.

5th April(Thrusday) – Sri Ramanuja Acharya Jayanti
It was Ramanuja who advocated that worship of Lord Vishnu is the best and the viable method of attaining Moksha or salvation.
Ramanuja Acharya was revered as most knowledgeable Acharya who advocated the philosophy and ethics of Vaishnavism. The Acharya was born in 1017 CE at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. His birth name was Ilaya Perumal and the revered Acharya continued to spread the light of vision throughout his life.
Shri Ramanuja Acharya promoted the intellectual form of Bhakti by guiding his followers on a distinct path away from the Advita principals.
It was Ramanuja Acharya who propagated the thought that devotees can choose their own method of worship and reach the highest level of devotion through Bhakti.

3rd May(Tue) – Parshuram Jayanti
Parshuram the sixth incarnation of Vishnu is the epitome of valor and devotion towards parents.
The birthday of Parshuram is celebrated on the 3rd day of Shukla Paksh of Vaishakh month.
Akshaya Tritiya is another name for the birthday of Lord Parasuram.
Once his father, Jamadagni got angry with his wife Renuka and ordered Parshuram to murder her. Parshuram obeyed him and killed his mother. Contented with his act Jamadagni asked his son to ask for anything whatever he wanted. Parshuram asked to bring back his mother to life. It was Parshuram’s cleverness that brought back his mother to life again. In this way Parshuram proved his devotion to his father and mother.
